The guide on this page will help you select the appropriate page type in Site Builder based on the purpose and structure of your content.

Decision tree for choosing a page type
Question If YES → Use this Page Type
Is this the main homepage for your site? Index Page → Showcase your site’s most important content, updates, and calls to action.
Is this page named index? If it’s in your site's top-level folder, it’s probably an Index Page. If it's in a subfolder, it's probably an Index Page or Card Grid Page (depending on whether you want to tell a story or just provide a quick-scanning list of choices).
Is this the main page for a section (like Academics, Admissions, Research)? Index Page → Introduce a section with storytelling elements (narrative text, images, CTAs) and guide visitors to related Details pages.
Do you want to show a grid of topics, profiles, or resources (visual, scannable list)? Card Grid Page → Useful for directories, categories, or feeds from LiveWhale; designed for scanning and clicking quickly.
Is this about an individual person (faculty, staff, student, speaker, awardee)? Profile Page → Includes fields for names, bio, contact info, headshot.
Do you need to show a process, timeline, or history step-by-step? Timeline Page → Sequence of steps, milestones, or events with optional dates and actions.
Do you need to present long-form content about a single topic? Details Page → Flexible layout with components for text, images, and media.
None of the above? Likely still a Details Page → It’s the most flexible option and works for general-purpose content.
